How to find your phone model
The model name is in Settings, on both platforms, in under a minute. Use that when you are holding the phone. Use the check on the home page when you are already in the browser and just want the answer.
On an iPhone
- 1
Open the Settings app.
- 2
Tap General.
- 3
Tap About.
- 4
Read Model Name. That is the answer, for example iPhone 15.
- 5
Tap the Model Number line once if you need the A-number from the box. Tap again and it shows the sales region.
On an Android phone
- 1
Open Settings. On some phones it is labeled System, then About phone.
- 2
Tap About phone. Samsung sometimes nests it under About phone → Software information for the Android version only — stay on the first About screen for the phone itself.
- 3
Read Model name, or Model. That is the Galaxy, Pixel, or other name.
- 4
Read Model number for the code. On Samsung it looks like SM-S921U1.
Menus move a little by brand. If About phone is not at the bottom of Settings, search inside Settings for “model”. The result opens the right screen.
Name, number, and what is on the hardware
Model name
What you tell someone: iPhone 16, Galaxy S24, Pixel 8a.
Model number
The manufacturer’s code. Samsung uses SM-. Apple uses an A-number. This is the one that matters for parts, bands, and unlocked-versus-carrier.
On the phone itself
iPhone: the A-number is in tiny type on the back of older phones and on the SIM tray of newer ones. Samsung: the model is often on the SIM tray. The box side panel has both the name and the code.
If you only have a listing or a photo
You cannot point this site at someone else’s phone. Copy the model number out of the listing and use the lookup. “Unlocked” in a title is not the same thing as a U1 Samsung — read the code.
